Basic Science Research
The Department of Neurology has had a long tradition of a strong federally funded basic science research program for the last 50 years. The goal of these programs has been to uncover the pathological mechanisms of neurological disease and to devise new therapeutic approaches to protect the population at large against these diseases. Over the last 4 decades, different programs have been added to this mission, which encompass research Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), drug addiction, stem cell research, stroke, cardiac arrest, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline during aging.
